Internationalisation is a central component of UNIC’s strategy. This includes partnerships for degree programmes, student mobility, and opportunities for students post-graduation in academia or industry, in order to share knowledge and capabilities across countries. The first and largest medical programme in Cyprus was formed in collaboration with St George’s, University of London. Today, the Medical School attracts over 500 students from around the world. In Greece, we offer several joint Masters degrees with the top Greek universities: Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Patras and the Hellenic Open UniversityThe University of Nicosia is the first private university in Cyprus to be ranked by the main global university ranking organisations.

Prof Philippos Pouyioutas

He is a Professor of Computer Science and the Rector of the University of Nicosia. He studied at the University of London (BSc Computer Science – Queen Mary College – 1988, MSc Databases and Information Systems – Birkbeck College – 1989, Ph.D. Object-Oriented Databases – Birkbeck College – 1996). He also holds a Certificate in Teaching/Learning in Higher Education from the University of North London (1993). Professor Pouyioutas is an experienced project coordinator.

He undertook and successfully coordinated various major administrative/academic projects within the University, as well as major scientific and applied funded research projects. He has extensive experience in developing academic programmes, including joint and double degrees. During his term of office as Rector as from April 2016, the University under his initiative and guidance developed joint/double Master degree programmes with more than 10 European Universities. Professor Pouyioutas is also an expert on Quality Assurance and e-learning. His current applied research work focuses on developing ICT tools to support the European Higher Education Area reforms and Quality Assurance and has resulted in more than 30 relevant publications. He has served from May 2007 to September 2014 as a Bologna Expert/Promoter for Cyprus and has been invited in Cyprus and abroad (UK, Greece, Malta, Israel) to deliver presentations on the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) reforms. He is a member of the Working Group of Quality Assurance of EURASHE (European Association of Institutions in Higher Education). He will act as the partner manager, coordinating at the partner level the project activities. He will also be providing in his capacity as an ex-Bologna Expert and an Expert in curriculum development, ECTS, Learning Outcomes, and Quality Assurance substantial input in the development of the structure of the academic programme(s).
