University Profile

The Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka was established under the Universities act no 16 of 1978 on 7th November 1995 and ceremonially inaugurate on the 2nd February 1996. At present, the University offers all the degree programs by eight Faculties of Graduate Studies, Agriculture Sciences, Applied Sciences, Geomatics, Management Studies, Medicine, Social Sciences and Languages, Technology.

Currently, there over 4000 undergraduates are register in the University while more than 800+ academic staff and 500+ non-academic staff members are employed in the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. SUSL has nine study centers/units viz. Center for Computer Studies, Staff Development Center, Career Guidance Unit, Center for Indigenous Knowledge and Community Studies, Center for Research and Knowledge Dissemination, Center for Open and Distance Learning, Center for Gender Equity and Equality, Internal Quality Assurance Unit and University Business Linkage Cell established within the University.

The University has expressed the vision "to be an internationally acclaimed center of excellence in higher learning and research, producing dynamic managers, leaders and nation builders to guide the destiny of Sri Lanka". The mission of the University is "to search for and disseminate knowledge, promote learning, research and training to produce men and women proficient in their respective discipline processing practical skills and positive attitudes enabling to contribute toward sustainable development of the country".

The Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka offers the following degree programs through its eight faculties. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences offers B.Sc. Hons. Degree programs in Agricultural Sciences and Food Business Management through its three departments, the Department of Livestock Production, the Department of Export Agriculture and the Department of Agribusiness Management.

Mrs. T.P Liyanage

Mrs Thanuja Liyanage, working as a lecturer in the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. She has 20 years of experience as a Physical Education teacher in Sri Lankan schools. She was a good athlete during her school time and also a Junior National Level netball player. She has completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Master's Degree in the field of Education, and Master's of Philosophy in Physical Education. She has completed an Advanced Coaching Diploma in Netball, Postgraduate Diploma in Physica.l Education, Higher National Diploma in Teacher Training in Physical Education, Diploma in Sports Management, and Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science.

She was a grade IV technical officer at amateur athletic association and B grade umpire in Netball Federation in Sri Lanka. She has served the Physical Education sector in Sri Lanka at an administration level. Now as a university lecturer she teaches undergraduate subjects related to Physical Education and Sports Sciences and guides them to conduct action research on Physical Education. She is a highly motivated and energetic woman willing to expand her knowledge and skills and to serve her best to the country.
